Q-RAD, Italian Consortium of Manufacturers of Quality Radiant Systems, brings together some of the most important manufacturers of radiant heating and cooling systems in Italy. The Consortium aims to promote, improve and develop consciousness of the advantages of radiant heating and cooling, as a tool to increase energy savings together with better living comfort, both in the residential sector and in the tertiary and industrial sector.

It is clear that the use of radiant panels with geothermal energy gives up to a 71% reduction in consumption compared to electric heating and in any case to half the consumption of a traditional radiator with boiler.
In addition, a radiant system can provide an ideal vertical air temperature gradient, as shown in Figure 2, the phenomenon of cold air flow due to the excessive movement of the air is significantly reduced, this is because the system works using lower air flow compared to conventional air systems.
A research team from the University of Turin has shown that a cold ceiling combined with mechanical ventilation can significantly decrease the risks of air flow reducing the vertical variation of air temperature, an aspect that is often observed in air full-systems.
Objective measurements and subjective investigations have shown that radiant heating systems reduce the risk of air draughts and local discomfort of feet, thanks to the reduced temperature variations and the reduced vertical temperature gradients.
A practical example of application: hospitals and clinics.
Hospital environments are places where health, comfort and safety must be guaranteed at most. The aspects to consider and the actions to perform are various, from a careful analysis of air humidity levels and temperature to the need to avoid the risk of bacteria proliferation (as legionellae). The demand for energy in this sector is extremely high and the requirement must be guaranteed by thermal and electrical systems, generally active 24/7, every day of the year. In particular, energy is used for heating, ventilation and lighting of rooms, the preparation of domestic hot water, summer cooling, the production of steam for sterilization and humidification, as well as for kitchens, laundries, internal transports, computers, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, etc.
The advantages of the system
From the point of view of well-being for people, with the radiant system all the required parameters of temperature, humidity, quality and air renewal are satisfied. From a hygienic point of view, the radiant systems, not being visible, do not in any way constitute a receptacle for dust and other pollutants and therefore represent the ideal solution.
